National Write Your Own Story Day: Wrapping it Up

March 14 is National Write Your Own Story Day. At Wildwood, we believe everyone has a unique story, and today we are honored to feature an essay by Deb, an individual Wildwood supports.

Deb is a fitness enthusiast, a student, and a talented musician who decided to put her journey into words to serve as an inspiration to others. Her story, titled “Wrapping it Up,” is a powerful look at transformation, resilience, and the beauty of independence.

In Her Own Words

Deb’s message is simple: “You too can succeed against the odds.” She continues to work on her self-confidence and inner voice, reminding herself every day that she is beautiful.

“Are you a different person in general? I would like to share my journey with you readers. You canhave a balanced life and be successful.

During my journey in life, I have undergone a transformation. Years ago, I felt depressed and was overweight. I learned a lot of self-confidence. I finally felt like a new person in many ways. I have been going to Planet Fitness for the last 15 years. I have been faithful in my exercise and healthy lifestyle. I have had more energy physically and mentally! This feels so great!

During my weight loss journey, I have kept up a positive attitude. I have been on Weight Watchers, Ozempic, and Wegovy. All of these have helped me to lose weight. I am determined and motivated to lose the weight, and be happy for these reasons!!

I struggle with body image. I do practice self-esteem and self confidence, to remind me that I am beautiful in many ways. I am very hard on myself, but with practice, the better. I continue to accept positive reinforcement from others. I continue to work on listening to my inner voice. I want to keep positive.

I was born in Saratoga Springs, NY. When I was young, I found out that I have a learning challenge. I have an older brother. He has a girlfriend. My middle brother has a wife and 4 kids. I have one sister and two boys. My family has been very supportive and loving toward me. Despite being learning challenged, I have overcome depression and am working on overcoming anxiety. Through my hard work, I have had many experiences to be successful.

I am also very musical!! I play the piano, marimba, and organ. I play for funerals, graduations, and weddings for my church. I liked to share with others, with my music talent.
When I was in school, I struggled to get good grades. With added support, I was able to pass each course. I played in the band and orchestra. The other students made fun of me. I did not like this, but it did help me to be positive, no matter what.

I moved into Latham Apartments. I had the challenge to have apartment skills. The staff here have been very helpful, and have encouraged me to have the best independence. I am very independent in many ways. I take the big bus, and I also take the Star bus. This helps me to go from place to place.

I hope you readers can have a successful life! You too can succeed against the odds. You also can learn to overcome challenges, in this lifetime. With my hard work, I have been able to be successful!! I am very proud of myself!! I am very hard on myself, but I continue to keep positive in everything I do. Every time I work out at the gym, I end up feeling like a new woman, after exercising!”
