Due to the increased and unique needs of students with learning and behavioral issues, Wildwood Institute recognizes the challenges that schools face in providing an inclusive, least restrictive education. Who are your students with these types of needs ? How can the Institute help you in educating them?
Whom Do We Serve?
At the Wildwood Institute, we have extensive experience working on behalf of students with disabilities who are educated in public and private schools. Our goal is to assist school personnel to develop strategies that enable students with disabilities to remain in the least restrictive environment. We assist schools to develop supports and programs for students with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorders (Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disability)
- Learning Disabilities
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Neurological Impairments
- Psychiatric Disabilities and Emotional Disturbances
- Traumatic Brain Injury
What Services Do We Provide?
The services provided by the Wildwood Institute are unique because they are tailored to specific needs and complemented by on-going support. We wholeheartedly believe in a multi-disciplinary team approach, and therefore work with students, educators and families in the school as well as at home. All of our services include an initial assessment, programmatic recommendations, and continuous support in the implementation of the recommendations should this be requested. Examples of the broad reaching categories of services that we provide are:
Assessments
- Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs)
- Educational and Psychological Evaluations (e.g. Triennial Evaluations, Neuropsychological Evaluations and Informal Assessments)
- Diagnostic Vocational Evaluations (DVEs)
Program Development
- Individualized (for the school and the student) program development for both short and long-term relevance
- Development of research based best practices in reading for the 4th and 8th grade assessments
- Creation of effective programming for students on the Autism Spectrum (including Asperger’s Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders)
- Development of School-to-Work programs to address the transition goals of students
Staff Education and Support
- Structured small group training sessions for teachers and paraprofessionals on topics such as helping students without making them helpless, understanding the Autism Spectrum, differentiated instruction, curriculum based assessments, and research based reading strategies
- Guided and coached implementation of educational strategies (including curricular adaptations and environmental modifications) in the classroom
- Assistance in developing IEP goals and objectives, and participation in the CSE process
- Development of truly multi-disciplinary curriculum and instructional teams
Family Support
- Facilitation of sustained, positive communication between families and professionals
- Successful strategies for positive behavioral outcomes including in-home coaching
- Development of tools for successful involvement of families in the education process
