Ian Rafalak
Ian graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in June of 2000. In High School he was involved in jazz band, R&B band, pep band,Choralaires and Concert band at school. Outside of school he plays guitar, bass and trumpet with "Monkey
Gone Mad" as well as writing their arrangements and being lead vocalist. He received a dual degree as a Music Education and Performance major at Ithaca College, studying both Classical
Guitar and Trumpet. He performed with the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Chorus and other organizations. He has been involved with local Baha'i Youth and has performed with the Rafalak family, the Pathway Jazz and World Music Ensemble, the "Ian Rafalak Trio",
Paddy Kilrain, Pocket Protector, Wade Dean Enspiration, Hybrid and with many other organizations and groups. Currently he lives in Philadelphia and performs with One Sweet World among other groups.
Ian, along with Jason and their friend Arya wrote and performed the music to several songs by "Badi". To hear Badi performing one of those works with Monkey Gone Mad at the Tulip Festival in Albany, NY click here.
In 2007, Ian received his Masters in Jazz Studies on the Bass from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA.
Ian, Jason, Arya, Adam and Jeff now perform as the "Groundbreakers" backing up Badi and can be seen on Badi's new concert DVD "The Departure".
