Preschool
A full-day Preschool Program located in our main school building on Curry Road Extension in Schenectady provides success-oriented activities to students ages 3-4. Emphasis is placed on the development of cognitive learning, language, communication, motor, self-assurance and social skills. Children without disabilities who attend the child care program in the building are peer models for the preschoolers.
Elementary
Students in these programs have highly varied needs. Some learn through traditional academic instruction while others require a functional approach to acquire independent living skills. A pre-vocational curriculum, which assesses vocational readiness, is part of the overall educational plan for adolescents. A Greenhouse program provides unique experiences for the Wildwood Students. We invite you to look at some Web Pages created by some of our Classrooms. (Class 9)
Adolescent
This program serves students ages 13-18 who benefit
from a public school environment, yet still require intense emotional
support and individualized instruction. Academics and pre-vocational
skills are taught in a context that stresses decision-making
and development of interpersonal skills. The curriculum blends
the classroom, the rest of the high school and the community
so that students can put their learning to practical use.
Young Adult
The Young Adult Program provides students ages 18 - 21 with realistic learning environments. Students participate in their program at the Latham Circle Mall, Curry Road Extension, training apartments, job sites and other community locales. The Young Adult Program is designed to prepare young adults and their families for a smooth transition from school to adulthood. The goal is to develop self-respect and to live, work and recreate in the least restrictive environments. The program provides an individualized curriculum that is relevant to the needs of each student. Skills are learned, applied and generalized in a wide variety of real-life settings. Wherever possible, the community is the classroom.
Camp
The Summer Extension Program continues each student's
annual Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The program takes
place at several locations: Camp Wildwood, an 86-acre facility
in Altamont; the Curry Road building; Latham Circle Mall; and
two apartments. Students ages 3 to 21 who are not enrolled in
Wildwood School may attend this program, provided there is space
available. Referrals are made through each school district's
CPSE or CSE.
